Mission Statement
The Detroit Metropolitan Youth Ensembles
mission is to provide a vehicle whereby youths,
ages 8 to 12, can develop musicianship and express
their talents and skills, from a vocational
perspective, through rehearsal, training, and
performance opportunities while promoting high
self-esteem, self-discipline, perseverance,
self-motivation, concentration, creativity, higher
reasoning skills, high academic achievement, and a
positive self-image.
The Detroit Metropolitan Youth Ensembles
is a performance entity designed to develop
and enhance the gifts of those who exhibit a
talent for the musical arts. The DMYE will
provide instruction, training and performance
opportunities thorough the following
mediums: The Detroit Boy's Choir, Girls
Choir, Concert Choir, Handbell Choir and
Recorder Ensemble. Additionally, instruction
in theory, ear training, sight singing, and sight-reading
will be integrated into the rehearsal
sessions to enhance learning and strengthen
understanding of the basic fundamentals of
music. Practicums and vocational experience
will be given at regular intervals via
Master Classes, Lecture Series, and Concert
Series by experienced performing
professional musicians of local, national
and/or international celebrity.
